After 25 years of conflict and successive droughts, Afghanistan is trying to rebuild itself. the country desperately needs infrastructures; there is no security, and access to safe drinking water and food is difficult. ACF has been assisting the Afghani population with programs since 1995.

Humanitarian Context

  • After 25 years of conflict and sucessive drought, Afghanistan tries to reconstruct itself after the fall of the Taliban.
  • More than five million people depend on humanitarian aid on a daily basis, a situation which has become even more complex following the attacks against the Taliban by the USA and Great Britain.
  • Afghanistan is one of the most heavily mined countries in the world. The UN estimates that there are more than 25,000 landmines on unexploited territory.
  • It is estimated that there are around four million Afghan refugees, living mainly in Pakistan and Iran.
  • Despite the fall of the Taliban regime, the situation of women remains difficult. Outside Kabul, women who wish to study or work are still being persecuted.
  • Attacks against humanitarian agencies and organizations have increased in recent months, causing many of them to withdraw from the country for security reasons.
