Humanitarian Context

Beyond climatic hazards (drought, floods…), insecurity and the absence of public services, the already precarious humanitarian situation in Somalia is deteriorating. Efforts to provide mid-term support (durable rehabilitation of water points, agricultural diversification) seem inadequate in emergency situations where humanitarian assistance is vital to respond to immediate needs for treatment (health and nutrition), water, food and seeds needs. In July 2006, a nutrition survey carried out by Action Against Hunger already revealed alarming results: 5.34% severe acute malnutrition and 33.5 global acute malnutrition.
