Youcef Hammache, Desk Officer / Mission Manager

Youcef Hammache currently serves as Desk Officer and Senior Technical Advisor for ACF’s New York office. Mr. Hammache joined ACF in 1999, where he initially served as a water-and-sanitation engineer at ACF’s mission in Somalia, then in 2000 as a water-and-sanitation coordinator in Uganda. In 2002, he went to ACF’s Paris office where he was first a technical advisor, then a manager of programs in Algeria, Burundi, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and Timor. In 2003, he became a desk officer in charge of Algeria, Burundi, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
Before joining ACF, Mr. Hammache worked in Senegal, assessing water and sanitation needs in slums and in Madagascar, where he conducted a feasibility study for a bio-energy company. In 2000, Mr. Hammache’s article on how chlorination was used successfully to purify water in Mogadishu was published and presented at the 26th Annual Water, Engineering and Development Centre Conference in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Mr. Hammache earned his academic degrees at Lille in urban planning and environment, and at Bordeaux II Universities in public health (water and environment). He speaks English, French, Berber and has Arabic notions.
